Neighborhood Guide

Tropical beach town vibes meet world-class surf culture and legendary nightlife. Here's what you need to know.

Welcome to the Guanacaste Province, where turquoise waters meet untouched jungle. This region is a perfect blend of nature and nightlife—you can spend your morning surfing legendary breaks, your afternoon exploring misty cloud forests and volcanic landscapes, and your evening dancing at world-class beach clubs.

The area has deep roots in surf culture. Tamarindo and nearby breaks attract surfers from around the globe. The vibe is laid-back but never boring, with a thriving restaurant scene, craft cocktail bars, and authentic local sodas serving incredible food for cheap.

Wildlife is everywhere. Howler monkeys wake you up with their prehistoric calls. Sloths hang in trees. Tropical birds display impossible colors. This is Costa Rica—raw, wild, and unfiltered.

Best Sunset Spot

Playa Tamarindo at the northern point near Witch's Rock. Golden hour around 5:30 PM year-round. Grab drinks at a beach bar and watch the sky light up.

Cheapest Eats

Local sodas in central Tamarindo. Try "Soda Tamarindo" for authentic casados (plate with rice, beans, salad, plantains) for $6-8. Eat where the locals eat.

Best Surf Break

Witch's Rock for experienced surfers, Playa Tamarindo for beginners. Constant swells year-round. Lessons and board rentals available throughout the area.

ATM Locations

Central Tamarindo has multiple banks and ATMs. BAC San José and Banco Nacional are most common. Withdraw cash before heading to remote beaches.
