1. Acceptance of Terms
By booking a room at Blackout Hostel and arriving at our property, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. These terms apply to all reservations made through our website, phone, email, or in person. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not complete your booking.
2. Booking Terms
Age Requirement: Guests must be 18 years of age or older to book and stay at Blackout Hostel. Valid government-issued ID is required at check-in.
Booking Confirmation: A confirmation email will be sent upon successful booking. Please review all details carefully. Guests are responsible for providing accurate contact information and special requests.
Payment & Pricing: All prices are quoted in USD unless otherwise stated. The total amount includes accommodation, cleaning fees, taxes, and platform fees. Payment is due in full at the time of booking unless special arrangements have been made.
Currency: While we quote in USD, local payments in Costa Rican Colones (CRC) are accepted at our current exchange rate (approximately 515 CRC per USD).
3. Cancellation Policy
Free Cancellation: Cancel up to 7 days before check-in for a full refund, minus any credit card processing fees.
50% Refund: Cancellations made 3-7 days before check-in receive a 50% refund. The remaining 50% is retained as a penalty.
No Refund: Cancellations made within 3 days of check-in are non-refundable. This includes no-shows.
How to Cancel: Email cancellation requests to info@blackouthostel.com with your booking confirmation number. Cancellations are effective upon receipt of the email.
Group Bookings: Groups of 6 or more guests must contact us directly for custom cancellation terms. Standard cancellation policy does not apply to group reservations.
Natural Disasters: In case of extreme weather, earthquakes, or other natural disasters that prevent arrival, guests may reschedule their stay without penalty within 12 months.
4. Code of Conduct
Guests are expected to treat the hostel, staff, and fellow guests with respect. The following behaviors are strictly prohibited:
- Violence, threats, or aggressive behavior
- Harassment, discrimination, or bullying
- Illegal drugs or controlled substances
- Excessive noise or disturbance after 2 AM
- Theft or damage to property
- Disrespect toward staff or management
- Unauthorized guests in rooms
- Sexual harassment or non-consensual behavior
Violation of the Code of Conduct will result in immediate removal from the property without refund. Guests may be banned from future stays. Serious violations may result in police involvement.
5. Limitation of Liability
Blackout Hostel is not responsible for:
- Lost, stolen, or damaged personal property
- Injury or illness during your stay
- Missed flights, tours, or activities due to hostel conditions
- Weather-related service interruptions
- Third-party services (tours, transportation, activities)
Guests are encouraged to use provided lockers for valuables. Safe deposit boxes are available at the front desk. We recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering cancellation, medical emergencies, and lost belongings.
6. Check-In & Check-Out
Check-In Time: 3:00 PM. Early check-in is available subject to availability ($20 fee).
Check-Out Time: 11:00 AM. Late check-out is available subject to availability ($20 fee).
ID Requirement: Valid government-issued ID is required at check-in. Booking confirmation and payment information will also be verified.
7. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Costa Rica. Any disputes arising from your booking or stay will be resolved in accordance with Costa Rican law. Both parties agree to make good faith efforts to resolve disputes before legal action.
